Garden Creatures

I know, another post already? Weird. I guess that means life is getting back to normal. As I was weeding the sadly neglected garden, I found several surprises. This is one of two toads--the much bigger one. He was very fun and the girls really wanted to keep him. I told them we'd keep him in our garden.

These, however, are NOT going to live in my garden!! This is the second time we've found a rabbit nest in our garden. In this picture, you can see the pile of grass and hair that was the covering for the nest on the right, and the tiny babies buried on the left. After uncovering the nest a little more...
Then I picked up all five babies with a shovel and moved them to their new home, the bushes in my neighbor's yard!

Josiah was exposed to his first toad tonight...he had a blast with it. Please forgive my ignorance, but are they bad for the garden?

And "fresh" from the womb bunnies sure do look weird.

I'm just as ignorant, but I figure they eat bugs, so how bad could they be?

Do you not like your neighbors? Is that why you put the bunnies there? I love the toad! You live in such a great outdoors place!

I love my neighbors! The guy next door (where I put the babies) raises rabbits, and those bushes are where all the adult rabbits live.

We have a special tank reserved for critters the kids find. It had salamanders in it until they died, then two bigger frogs until they died (while we were in Utah). Kate found another little tiny frog that's in there now. Lucky we haven't found any rabbits yet! So much fun!

Rabbits are almost the worst thing you can have for a garden. Haven't you ever read Peter Rabbit? They will eat all of your cabbages, which will have a very soporific effect on them. Seriously, though, they will eat everything.

okay, for all of you who think the baby dragon is ick, those rabbits are gross! Bleck!!!! I would have really gotten rid of them. I hear if you put them in a ziploc and seal it they will just go to "sleep". Rabbits in the neighbor's bushes will still end up in your garden, won't they?

Oh, you can't kill them! They're bunnies! Cute! If your neighbor likes them then that was a good place as long as it was far away from teh garden.

nice to see some new posts, even if it is about bunny babies and frogs in your garden . . .
